Serum level of Adrenomedullin in patients with primary knee osteoarthritis; relation to disease severity

Abstract Background Adrenomedullin (AM) is a peptide which was suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis through its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effect. AM found elevated some inflammatory rheumatic diseases as rheumatoid arthritis ankylosing spondylitis. The current study performed measure serum Adrenomodullin concentrations patients with primary knee (KOA) assess association severity disease. on 50 KOA diagnosed according American College Rheumatology (ACR) Revised Criteria for Early Diagnosis Knee Osteoarthritis 20 age- sex-matched controls no clinical features KOA. Kellgren Lawrence (KL) classification used evaluate disease OA. Disease activity assessed by Western Ontario McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC). Blood samples had been collected from OA assessing patients’ sera ELISA. Results There were significant increase compared (10.64 ±19.2 ng/ml vs. 1.39 ±1.6 cases respectively) ( p value = 0.036). positive correlation levels KL grades r =0.608, <0.001).
